And With That

And with that, the tracking for Spinner's Yarn has come to a close! Now I really feel as if I've won a gold medal. For the most part I'm satisfied with how it's sounding. After I mix I'll be totally satisfied, and then hopefully you too will be satisfied. I still need to collaborate with my friend Alex Felt some more to get the Artwork to where it needs to be, and then it'll be ready for printing. Keep an eye out for a release show at Deva Cafe presented by the man amongst men: Greg Edwards. The release show will be sometime in early June, but not to worry; as soon as It's mixed I'll put up some preview tracks. Beyond that, more details to come.

Gold Medal Cryumph

At long last my living room is a living room again, as opposed to a recording studio. It's a little sad really, like winning an Olympic gold medal, you can't help but be a little downcast in your triumph. Never the less the piano parts are officially done. I'm hoping to finish tracking Spinner's Yarn today. TO-DAY!

Art, Money, and Success

Here's a thought for my fellow artists and friends of said artists:

Below is my reply to the above article:

If you're hellbent on making a living off of your music then these are great tips. However, I think an important thing to bear in mind is that you can work a regular ol' job and still make music, perhaps even be important in some social context years from now. Look at Nick Drake, or Townes Van Zandt. Sure they're big now, but for the most part, and by and large they were sleepers while they were around. Until Willie covered Townes of course. Anyhow, my point is that cash doesn't equal success. So being an artist myself I feel most successful when I play my songs for a crowd. Period. Not when they like it or don't like it. If I capture an idea or communicate a thought with a song I write, I have succeeded. Maybe that's why pop music went down the poop shoot. People get hung up on the money and not the art. And no one needs to "learn" how to make meaningful art. That's why it's art. I'm pretty sure "whatever works" is a good slogan here.

I know I've said it before but I'm almost almost almost done tracking Spinner's Yarn. I sewed the last of the piano parts up a couple nights ago. I have a total of 6 parts left to record and they're all pretty simple. I am so antsy I can barely stand it.
