Plans, Parts, and Fonts

With both the Thanksgiving holiday and a weekend in Phoenix over with, I've got the sort of free time I need to really get down to business on my album. I've spent the past several days creating a font for the album art. This is yet more territory that I hadn't a clue about until just recently. This seems to be the theme for me and the creative process. I constantly find myself thinking "Wow I really don't know what I'm doing here." It can certainly be unsettling, but it seems to be coming along slowly but surely, anyhow. The real trouble is trying to plan things so that they all come together as a whole at the end of whatever it may be that you're working on. Keeping in line with that thought process, for the next few days (now that the font is finished) I'm going to finish up the last of the part writing for this album, and start tracking this coming Monday or Tuesday with fingers crossed and patience in mind.

Spinner's Yarn

I just finished writing the final song for an album I'm putting together. The album will be a ten song, full length called "Spinner's Yarn" and will include new versions of Trinkets, Like Embers In Ashes, and Grandfather Clock, a couple of unrecorded songs, and a surprise if you come to a show and get a physical copy of the CD. My good friend Alex Felt will be doing the artwork for it and, if I know Alex, it should be pretty awesome. I'm going to start recording as soon as possible, and I hope to release it in April or May of next year. If you're as excited as I am, or just curious to find out more about it as the project moves forward, I'll post updates here as well as Twitter, MySpace, and FaceBook.

And You Are?

I'm a solo Indie/Folk/Acoustic artist from Manteca, CA. I've played a number of shows in and around Modesto, CA and worked with local artists from the Off The Air scene such as: Nick Shattell, Travis Vick, Scott Bartenhagen, and Jonathan Sarenana. Together, Travis Vick, Jonathan Sarenana, and I released a split album titled "The Valley Floor" which was released in December of 2008 and is available both as an LP or digitally via Amazon, iTunes and a host of other online stores. I'm due to release my first full length solo album in June which will be titled "Spinner's Yarn." As well as writing and performing music I also enjoy recording other people as it keeps my mind open to new ideas and different ways of thinking about what I do.

More Personal?

I was exposed to the wonderful thing that is music at a relatively early age. I grew up and still live in Manteca, CA and was fortunate enough to be born to parents who allowed me the room to explore whatever I really wanted to providing that it didn't hurt me or anyone else. Music was certainly included in this category and, in fact was quite encouraged. Whether it be listening to artists like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison and many others; or getting together with friends and playing many covers of the artists listed above (as well as originals), my folks were always sure to include my siblings and me in whatever they were up to. Furthermore, they were always sure to get things right, which is to say, for my purposes here, that music starts in the living room and isn't about stadiums, ticket sales, or the ever tantalizing "showmanship." It's about the living room, the coffee shop, and the guy on the corner playing for free because he loves what he does. Communicating a feeling to someone else through something you love is the greatest talent that human beings possess, for without it we would surely live in a boring and abysmally lonely world. Thank you for listening to what I have to say, and thank you truly if you truly hear it.
